Early on I had a few hands worth mentioning, For starters, with the blinds at 1/2, I had AQ in mid-late position and called a $10 PF bet from utg player. This was a rather large bet, especially for utg, so I suspected JJ, QQ, KK or may AK, but didn't think AK. I figured if I flop an ace, I might be able to get some chips here. Well, I flopped the ace, I think he checked and I bet out or he bet and raised. Bummer is that is he instantly folded KK face up. Very nice fold I said and I showed him the AQ to let him know he made a good fold. I figure that could help me later when I 3 bet with AIR.
Not too long after that hand I had 66 in MP and decided to switch it up
and raise PF to 15, I think the levels were 2/4 now. I got called in at least one spot and the flop came AKX. If I recall, he checked and I bet out, he called. Then the turn was a blank, not a 6 darn it. He check raised all in and I tanked for a moment..thinking I
may be good. I said if you don't have a pair I got you. He said,
OH I HAVE A PAIR, so I promptly folded. I think he had me. I needed a 6. Moving through the night I made a few moves including a bluff river bet when the draws never got there, several continuation bets that worked taking down post flop pots. I am really trying to make sure that
I bet when I think it will take a pot, rather than checking with hopes to make a hand and also letting them see add'l cards. I was playing really well IMO. No, I was pretty much crushing it ...
it was basically Pwnage at that party. When we broke from 3 down to 2 tables I had about 1k in chips. Considering that we started with 24 players at 200 each (4800 total), I had about 21% of the chips in play...I was thinking> i can do this, I can take this down!
I DO realize NOW that I made one bad play and had a chance to get away from it, but I just didn't even realize it was a bad play when I was making it.. It was like reading a news story with facts in the paper and just denying that it was true. I had K8 when we were 4 handed and I limped at 50/100 from utg. The utg+1 called, SB called and BB tapped for 4 to the flop. The flop was AKA so I figure I probably have the best hand and I think raise if anyone bets. SB bets
out 100, BB fold and I re-pop to 300. utg+1 fold and Sb calls. Turn is an 8, so not I have KKAA88 for 3 pairs. I MUST be good right? 3 pairs is almost the NUTS. Then, I recalled a HUGE hand that "The Miz" had won with K8...so this must be a sign, right? WRONG. Again
on the turn the sb bet out. He said aloud 300 and placed only 200 out there. Oh yeah, did I mention that this was "The Drunken Mexican"? The kind of guy that seemed half drunk half stupid, you know that kind, right? He consistently never knew when it was his turn and,
in addition, he was a calling station. It was one of the players you just want to hit up side the head and say WTF! Well, I shoved over his 300 for about 850 or so and he tanked. Board is AKA8 at this point and he is thinking....showing his hand to his..umm girlfriend
maybe and asking like "well?". So he finally says I call and flips over AT.. T= Trash in this case. I think A4 off. Tanking with a set of aces there? I was shocked and said "that was basically a slow
roll, how can you not call instantly with an ace there?" He said he was worried about his kicker... well I would have called instantly. Anyways, I never put him on the ace. In fact, I put him on a decent king, which had me beat, but I thought that I would rep an ace.
Needless to say if he was worried about his kicker, why call the raise on the flop? WHy not re-raise there? Well, because he is not a very good player, I guess. Anyways I should have backed down...but that is not how you win tournaments. You must stay aggressive.
Fortunately I recovered from THAT mistake and...then fate took me down in the end..I doubled him up there for a ton of chips, like 6-700.... it killed me, then I came back quite a bit. I Basically lost EVERY single hand I played with this guy.. it was a joke. I was about to blind out 4th, with 500 chips left at 100/200 when I looked down utg with 89d. I figured this is a good hand rather than wait for blinds to eat me I shoved in my 500. Well LOW and BEHOLD, here comes the drunk and/or stupid Mexican... btw I love Mexicans, just not him. So, of course he calls and I stand up and say, "See ya later, I have yet to win a hand agianst this guy. Let me guess ace junk again? Because we know he can't fold an ace!". He flops over J7, aka A MONSTER!! He flops the 7 and I think gosh darn it...turn 9, BAM! ALL me baby...and here comes the river......get ready.......hold it.......is it a 9? Nope! An 8? nope, just a lonely J for 2pr, he wins! I steamed out and told rick to keep the $48, I was on FBT... I am not very proud of my acceptance of the beat last night. I felt like John McEnroe. How can you possibly be serious! That ball was on the
line!..
