Barona Shooting - Murder Suicide

Maybe I should stay away from Barona for a while. I definitely know how it feels to be laid off since it has happened to me more than once, but murder, suicide? Whoa!

He runs really bad...

repost from Poker Grump.

This Wall Street Journal article is a fascinating glimpse into the world of casinos and their whales.

I was surprised to read that state gaming regulations prohibit casinos from allowing visibly intoxicated patrons from gambling. If true, this must be the single most widely disregarded rule on the books. At least half of the time that I play poker there is somebody at the table that I can tell within 60 seconds is drunk. I have never--literally not once--seen or heard any casino employee advise such people to leave or stop playing, or cut them off from further alcohol, unless the player is intolerably unruly or falling asleep at the table.

Teach 'em young

Notice the use of a playing card for tracking purposes while reading?

New library books

I went to the local library the other day and put every poker book on
my waiting list. Well a few came in. Will they make me a better
player. Time will tell...

Poker Blog Spoofs
September 24th, 2009
Here is Daniel Negreanu spoofing a poker blog by Patrik Antonious:

It’s so sick, like, last week I bought moisturizer to make sure my skin stays silky smooth and, like, they discontinue my brand. Now I have to fly back to Finland to see my doctor to make sure I don’t put any bad kind of cream on my face because you can’t trust, like, any brand.

I won, like, 5 million last month and broke my mouse because I was so pissed off about running so bad. It’s sick. Like, if the cards ever break even I’m going to win so much money. I could have won like $10 million, so sick, I’m just frustrated.

You just don’t understand how tough it can be to deal with. $5 million is not bad for some people, but my face cream is really expensive and I also pay my hairdresser a lo,t because I don’t trust too many people with my hair. It’s not easy to cut perfectly and I won’t go outside unless I look like perfect. So I’m basically screwed right now, a little bit depressed, but whatever, it could be worse… I guess

I’m going to go to the gym now for another 15 hour workout then eat some grilled chicken and a protein shake. I only worked out, like, 6 hours yesterday and I can already feel like I’m getting fat.

I think I am gonna do a few of these, this could be fun.

Battle Axe!

In poker, you can choose to blame yourself, the cards, the other players or your general bad luck; or, you can suck it up and play the hands you're dealt one at a time. When the tourney ends, you can choose to hang your head or you can study the game and move on to the next tourney and give it your best shot again and again.

Redwoods

This is awesome! Courtesy of:

We look at the mighty redwoods and we get all awestruck and we think majestically about wow, looky there. That's a really big tree. And straight. At least I do, that is, I used to, before I realized how stupid redwoods are.

Let's say you were a member of a species, and you basically ruled your world. Anywhere you went, you were the bad-ass. You controlled the resources, and no other species posed a threat to your species.

But no… that wasn't good enough. You, as in you and you and you and you, the individuals, wanted more, more, more, more. Always more, always better, always … higher. So instead of kicking back and living a life of leisure as a species, there arose non-stop infighting, for the sake of having more than the next guy. More what? We could metaphorically call it: sunlight. But the tragedy is that there is plenty of sunlight to go around. You silly, silly, redwood trees. As soon as you got to 200 feet tall, you ruled the skies. You dominated wherever you went. You had your own ecosystem and it worked. But you were so used to competing against other species that you fought on, against each other. And now many of you are 300 feet tall. Some as tall as 380.

Think of all the additional resources it takes to make and maintain a 380 foot tall tree compared to a 200 foot tall tree.

Don't worry, redwoods. I'll still come camping and I will always be awestruck by you because let's face it, you're awesome. Even if you ain't so bright.

Starving Seniors

So I pull into Costco the other day, park and head in for a couple of
things. On my way back out I notice this elderly couple chowing down
on a fresh rotisserie chcken like a couple of cavemen. I mean they
must have been hungry because they were sucking the bones and
everything. Classic.

how many times?

how many times have we said "I should have left when I was ahead."
Went for a late session, do you recognize where? Yup, good ole
Sycuan. Been a while. I was headed to Barona, but Sycuan had a 40k BBJ
going and three tables of $100 max when V and B had only 2. So S it
was. Got there late about 9, but it was plenty busy. Hardly played a
hand at first. First attempt ended as a fold of TT after limping and
being raised to 18 PF. 2 guys were playing mega loose. Long story
short I was 130 in and made it to 170 just playing snug. Then nothing
worked fir a lonv tune afrr tgsg point. Enddd up sticking it in with
QQ v K5 on K hi flop 2 spades to lose the last of that original $130
after bleeding being called every bet for an hour. This guy had
covercalled $11 after I flatter with QQ. amazing bad play I saw a lot
of. ghey. j play bad be should have 3bet pre.
